I drive a 2006 A8.

I will be in San Diego for 8 days in July, and I would like to continue doing that.

I am offering $1000 cash for the use of a 2006 (or later) a8 for 8 days in July, to remain in California.

I will arrive with my current lease statement for my own a8 as well as my current DL, passport and military ID. I will also provide personal and business references in San Diego. I am fully insured and will assume full responsibility for the vehicle.

Is this a common scam ? I have no idea, and I don't care.

Is this a bad rate ? I have no idea, and I don't care.

Did this work out badly for xyz friend/relative/neighbor ? I have no idea, and I don't care.

Are there regulatory or tax implications, or licensing, or blah blah ? I have no idea, and I don't care.

I give you $1000, I get to drive the car I drive every day in Minneapolis, you get it back 8 days later.

Check with Hertz - they may have A8's in their fleet. In MN I've gotten A6's a few times.

but they do have them. You have to call the individual Hertz agency you wish to rent from and talk to the manager. I used to get A8s out of SFO a couple of years ago. Not sure if they are available in SD, but am sure you can get them out of LAX.

are you for real with this? good luck ... ending about 6 lines of your message with "I don't care" tells me that if I was there and had an A8L I wouldnt loan it to you for the 1K, because if it came back with curbed wheels and parking lot dings or worse, you might just say... "I don't care"
