Winter or all season tires for 2007 S8

Any thoughts on what to do ? I'm assuming that the performance tires on 20 inch rims won't be very user friendly on snow and ice. I've had no trouble with all season tires on my 04 A8L. Are prospective S8 owners in northern climates planning to get a second set of wheels (20's ?, 19 inch 5 spoke?) with winter or all season tires or instead planning on switching the rubber on the 7 spoke 20's ? I like the looks of the 5 spoke all season package offered on the A8. I'd appreciate any insights.

I have the same dilemma. I will either keep the 19 inch 5 spokes ...

from the present car as the all season option for the S8 and fit the 20 inch quattros to the present car at trade or, most likely, leave the OEM sport package 19's on the car and fit 20 inch all seasons to the Quattros and use these on the S8 in the winter months. Whatever, I will use an all season option rather than a winter tire option. I have tried both on an A6, A4 and the A8 and concluded the all season option is the most flexible. I have not confirmed however that the S8 will come with summer tires - I assume it will - so have not made a final decision

Same

I'm in NY, and we had almost zero snow last year, just one snow fall for the most part. I'll keep the original setup on my S8...see what happens.

I have a winter tire set for my current A8L and plan to do the same if I get the S8

I've been a big believer in having dedicated winter tires for a long time and my entire family uses them, the exception being our LX 470 SUV that already runs M&S rated truck tires.

I'm in NJ so relatively close to Taurian (LI right?) and while we don't always get snow consistently through the winter, when we get a storm, it can be a whopper. Plus, winter tires aren't just needed for the snow, but for the cold temperatures (below 40F or 5C) when the rubber engineered for high performance tires do not function as well.

All seasons will function better in cold temps than the high performance tires, but I prefer the added safety margin of winter tires.

This will be especially so if I forego the Audi Quattro setup and instead get a RWD car like the E63 AMG just released.

I didn't have any problems with my 18" all seasons last year, here in Ohio.

I always get a separate set of snow tires, given the climate I live in (Boston). I am wondering what to get for the new S8, which I have on order (Oct 17 delivery). I would like to use the same wheels, but I'm not sure what is available on a 20" wheel.

Are you stuck with a 20" wheel for brake clearance or will a 19" wheel fit?

Arkay 08-04-2006 07:01 AM

I've always like the E55, and hope the E63 lives up to the hype...

But you're right, I really wish the RS6 was available right NOW to give me the choice I'd want to compare: S8 vs. RS6.

The M5 has likely fallen off the candidate list and the S550 looks just too bloated for me I think.

I have no idea. It will be the 20" wheels that come with the new S8 (delivery in Oct.)
