Default Wiper issue... add me to the list! (long post)

Hi All-

On a recent 500 mile road trip to San Francisco, going 65 MPH during rush hour (4 lanes our direction) the wipers stopped working!! I had my wife and 2.5 year old twins in the car. Scary as hell!!!

I was finally able to get to the shoulder (with my wife's head out the window to give directions). I left the car running and tried all sorts of things to get them working. Finally pulled the side fuse panel cover, pulled the 40 amp fuse (not blown) and plugged it back in. As soon as I plugged it back in, they started working again.

Took it to the dealer yesterday and they couldn't duplicate. I also gave the service manager a copy of the recent posts from this forum on the issue. Manager called last evening and asked if Tech could drive it home to try to duplicate, which I agreed to do. Service guy called this morning to state that the wipers did hesitate for the tech and that they were ordering a new wiper motor.

He also stated they would not release the car to me until the new motor is installed because they view this as a "safety issue"!

Just thought that I'd share this with you other A8 owners that have experienced the same problem.

Default Scott, MAKE SURE that they test the wipers before you get the car.

Suggest to them that they run a hose on the windshield with the wipers running. My dealer was so unresponsive to the whole matter that Im now driving a BMW!!!

Default Do you mind sharing who your dealer is?

I'll be taking my car in soon for some warranty work and I would love to bring up my wiper issue yet again with my service advisor and then give him the name of your dealer. That way he can contact your dealer's service department and maybe finally be convinced to replace my cars' wiper motor.

Thanks!

Hi Gina-

My dealer is Carrera Motors in Bend, Oregon. My Service Consultant is Scott Oren (1-800-842-1584).

This is my second Audi that I've had with Carrera and I can tell you they are a great to work with. I've had my share of problems with the Audi product but they have made it easier to live with.

Default Mine were fixed by langen audi east, but now sometimes they won't turn off ;}

I have to push the lever down as if i just needed a quick swipe to shut them off, weird results really, gonna bring it back in while they are replacing the wood trim, as 2 pieces didn't match the rest of the car..

Did they replace the wiper motor to fix the initial problem?
