Question 0378 - Coolant Circulation Pump fault

Got the aforementioned error already when I was buying the car a couple weeks back so no news there. so I changed the V50 Coolant Pump yesterday but the fault persists.
The question now is, did I change the wrong pump? Looking at the wiring diagram-component locations, there seems to be another pump, V51 After-run Coolant Pump. Could that be the culprit?

VCDS says:

A quick update; Wen't to my buddy's garage (he has a lift) to see what's going on with the suspension bushings/joints and to change the second aux coolant pump (V50 in the diagram above).

Did not see or feel any play, noticed that the rear lower front arms had been replaced recently. Nice.

The pump did not fit though, bummer. According to parts fiche I had the right pump but IRL the pump that's actually in front of the driver side tire was the same as the one up by the passenger side firewall. Not so nice.

Anyhoo, checked that there's 12V coming to the pump after the car's been shut down but the pump doesn't run so now I at least know for sure that the pump is busted. New one's coming in on Wednesday.

If the pump looks to be the same with same connection and same body, but has a different head where the hoses go into, you could just swap the head from the dead pump to make it compatible. I had to do the same for the coolant circulation pump instead of waiting for a new pump and everything works great. It's been changed over a year ago.

Oh shoot, didn't even think about that. Oh well, new pump is coming today so I'm good.

Thanks for the idea though, I'll remember that for the next time.

I hope so too

Cracked the old pump open ('cause I'm curious like that..) and looks like either coolant seeped in or there was some condensation going on.

Hi, I'm experiencing the same problem and have replaced both pumps (by the firewall and also in front of the drivers side wheel well by the Aux radiator). I did use ebay parts ($33 per pump) I still have the same code. Wondering if your replacement by the firewall solved your problem?

It did not, still have the same error. Wonder if the non-OEM pump is causing this. Currently trying to figure out if there's a way to run & diagnose the V50 (by the firewall) pump via VCDS.

OK, the code is gone, and now my heat is working! Apparently the Non OEM pump that I used to replace the bad one by the firewall was either bad right out of the box or is not compatable with my 2013 Audi A8L.

Symptoms: No heat at all and VCDS code scan was: Code 1 Fault Found: 0378 - Coolant Circulation Pump B10D0 04 [009] - Internal System Fault

Troubleshooting steps:
1. Based on similar threads, I replaced the small coolant pump up by the firewall with a $33 ebay pump. Same code, no heat. I was surprised and cracked the old pump open to check the condition, and it was wet and burned similar to post #6 above. More testing put my stethoscope on the pump trying to hear it run. Nothing. Not sure if it's working?
2. More research shows my car has an identical pump down in front of the Drivers side tire by the Aux radiator. Replace that pump with another $33 ebay pump. I SAVED THE OEM PUMP THAT I REMOVED THINKING MAYBE IT'S OK? Same code, no heat.
3. Now I'm puzzled. Did I get a bad pump from ebay up by the firewall? It seems the code is still pointing to the pump by the firewall. Not wanting to buy a $150 OEM pump from Audi to check it, I decided to swap the pump i removed from step #2 into the firewall location, and remove the ebay pump and test.
4. Voila, heat works and now the code is gone. Bench tested the ebay pump w/ 12v power supply, and it spins?? Not sure why it didn't work when installed.... Got a refund today from Ebay for the bad? pump.
5. Lesson: $33 ebay pump either bad out of the box or incompatible up by the firewall. Either way the final configuration as of today Ebay pump in front of drivers wheel well, and drivers wheel well original OEM pump installed in the firewall location.

Thanks for the info, John! Looks like I may have to get another pump too. Mine was from Amazon, undoubtedly not compatible with the car either. Sigh..
