Reason's got nothing to do with it. Apparently, a de-limited 2011 A8 will still do 181mph, so 200mph out of a tuned S8 is hardly a stretch.

Has that been confirmed with GPS?

Not exactly legal around here but there are some very straight stretches between here and Great Falls. I know my '05 is limited to 132mph according to the speedo. I didn't what to mess with gps.

That's from Audi on their test track. Mister Bally did over 170mph(174, was it?) at Bonneville in his 2004 A8L, and has the slip to prove it, so 181mph in the D4 with the more powerful 4.2 FSI and better transmission is well within reason. These cars have a pretty low drag coefficient.

Actually I saw some stuff in there that looked dangerous and not good driving. Great driving as far as generally managing the speeds, but not so much in various situational contexts. A whole bunch of times he is extremely aggressive accelerating based on a car in the passing lane signaling he will move right and starting to move over. Trouble is you can basically tell in more than a few cases he was apparently passing the other car when it was probably not even completely out of the lane. Slightest mistake there and there would be fatalities. And again, it wasn't just a one time thing. Also, from the camera shots it really looks like a whole bunch of times he really did not have good visibility on what was ahead at the running and passing speeds. Only the strength of the brakes was probably saving a lot of those--and permitting the aggressive style. In general, I think most of the whole area he was using had too much traffic for it and not enough visibility. From my own experience in Germany again a few years ago, a lot of the Autobahnen were like that--variously very common slight curves and a surprising amount of traffic and heavy trucks other vehicles are constantly themselves passing at fractions of the speeds involved here.

I remember a decade ago watching mildly tuned M6 and M5 with NA V10 do 200 MPH... this number no longer means what it used to.

Got to 187 in my 1971 monte carlo, could've went higher but I started to feel a slight vibration.
