Default 2011 A8L wheel fitment question

I have a 2011 a8l that I'm trying to get a super cheap winter set of wheels for.. found some on eBay but the link says they fit d4 A8s but not the a8l.. does anyone know of any differences between the long and short wheel base cars in terms of wheel fitment?

There is no difference.

+1. No diff. The key is they have to be for a (current) D4 model. If it says it is for a D3 model (ending in 2010), it doesn't fit--or it is extra cheapo generic with a filler ring.

Don't get knock off wheels, they can be dangerous. OEM aren't that much more expensive.

Default That is ridiculous...there are plenty of safe, non OEM wheels

Look at the major national vendors like Tirerack and Discount Tire. You can also find used OEMs on Craigslist and eBay. OEM wheels new are much more expensive than alternatives by at least a factor of 2 and sometimes 4 or more.

Indeed used OEM wheels--often in good shape--are pretty widely available. Not really necessary to even look at new OEM. D4 forged 10 twin spokes for example are sort of dime a dozen, almost always available on EBay from several sellers, commonly on AZ, and various other places. Other styles are around too, and in any 3-6 month period can be found at rational prices nothing like the retail dealer price. And the one or two sets priced like that on EBay just sit there from one year to the next. Literally. While other sets sell all around them at more rational prices.

There's a relatively healthy replica OEM wheel market for a number of other Audi models, but not the D3/D4. They're basically exact copies of the factory rims with an unbranded (but very Audi-like center cap).

Hartmann Wheels is one of the classic go-to's for Audi style replicas. Old reputation was OE type strong, but heavy. I see in web site these days they seem to be trying to position around the "heavy" knock. No weights given though. When I see that, I expect they are probably not so light.

Fortunately for D4 the offsets are actually very compatible with S5 and Q5 which opens up more. But then getting to 9" width (if desired) knocks out Q5 in general, and S5 falls away by 20" generally too. A7/S7 is also a direct crossover and factory interchanges wheels and designs a lot. Majority of OE wheel sets available for D4's seems to come from A7's/S7's but the tires are one notch too small in diameter if they are being sold complete.

There are good aftermarket brands, but none of them are really any cheaper than even a good set of used OEM wheels. The ones that would be appreciably cheaper are most definitely dangerous. Wheel failure scares me, it can cause a very sudden movement at any speed, without warning, and all it takes is not noticing a bad pothole.
