Hello, this is my first post, but I wanted to know, is there a difference in the VIN numbers?
Because one day I was randomly searching for cars, found something interesting - the seller was claiming a 2013 A8 , 170k km for 11k euro, i looked at the ad, looked legit, the photos however were of an S8, but the description matched the S8. I was like, well what can go wrong, so I emailed him, asked for more photos, the enginebay, trunk, the VIN, he procceeded to give me the original photos from the ad, the description(still said it was an A8, didn't get any enginebay, trunk photos), options and a story of how he moved to Ireland because of his company, (His email ends with @irishnaval.com) needed to sell this car, I don't know why so cheap though. Then I said, that is a nice S8, can you give me the VIN (its located blah blah), he gave me a VIN - VIN WAUZZZ4H1CNOO1597, I checked it, as far as I know, its for a grey A8, then i said, that vin is incorrect, its of a A8, the photos are of an S8, then he gave me this: the VIN of the "S8"
Notice how both VIN numbers start with WAUZZZ, I checked this one aswell, comes back to a grey A8, not S8 as shown. Shouldn't S8 VIN's start with WAUD? I am from Europe, Latvia, so the vin check for US cars might not work.
Yea, it sure does sound too good to be true, but I just wanted to see how far this will go, if its real, maybe I could somehow get the rest of the money and scoop up a quite fast audi for cheap
See this thread and read it from original post excitement in #1, to the MIA delivery truck, to the bitter truth as it rolls out. This could be you. Fortunately about the only one of these unfortunate stories we have seen actually play out and really bite hard, but it was just a few months ago.
