Default 2015 Audi S8 CPO

Hello All, I was just at my local Audi dealer and they have this beautiful and clean Daytona Gray 2015 S8 CPO in the showroom for $58K. It has the Driver Assistance Package, Cold Weather Package and the Bang & Olufsen Sound System. The car only has 29k miles. Is this a car you would recommend buying? and is it pretty reliable that it won't turn into a money pit? I've read quite a few threads where turbos have failed on the 4.0T, not just the S8 but also on the S6 as well but I don't know if that's too common.

Thanks in advance

I own a S8 and it is a deeply satisfying car. The one you are looking at is a great color, and has good options. All I know about the turbo risk is what I have read here, and it has to be a concern. But there seems to be a fix involving a screen that impedes the oil flow to the turbos, and it would be worth attempting to get the dealer to perform the fix , or maybe agree to do it at cost if you really like the car. Mike.

edit: since the car is CPO, ask for the right to do the upgrade at cost at a time of your choosing, because there is always the possibility that a recall may come along .

Absolutely a beast of a car! So fun to drive and such luxury!

Mine is actually in the classifieds if you want to take a look - 2015 with an extended warranty!

I will add a note to call out something uncovered in responses so far. S6 is NOT S8 motor wise. S6 is basically A8 4.0T. S8 is really RS7, and there is no RS6 of the recent generation in USA; it was available in Europe. The A8 (or S8) also has the 8 speed ZF, while the S6 uses the 7 speed sequential. While it's a slush box, I think the 8 speed is actually the faster one for apples to apples on motor, and the 8 speed can handle more torque.

Just washed my 2015 Daytona today for first time since winter. Nice color!

Thanks for the replies. I have to see how much they’ll give me for my trade in. This is the car.

Trust me when I tell you. Get that car now. I have the 16 S8 and it’s by far the best/nicest/most fun car to drive that I have had. You basically get an amazing sedan with close to super car like performance.

I love my s8
the s8 / rs7 turbo issue is very very rare- those rare instances will be found on forums.
The fix is the tsb and as a cpo car it should be done by dealer

What tsb are you referring to here? Do you have evidence that the dealer will perform this work? If so, I'd love to hear. Thanks

FWIW, if I understand these recent replies directly, the standard being mentioned for TSB repairs by dealers is not correct. That is, typically a TSB is only performed when your vehicle has the symptoms described in the TSB. In this case, unfortunately that means it's already too late and the turbos have melted down. Said another way, they won't do the work preemptively. On some you can sometimes "fake it" and claim you had the symptoms--wandering Nav, a particular squeak and so on where those are listed as symptoms connected to a fix. Unfortunately, not this one though AFAIK.

To the big picture, while I don't like that Audi is not stepping up--admitting directly there is an issue and calling them in across the board for the fix--I think boards tend to overemphasize these kinds of issues and the statistical likelihood of occurrence. Not saying it on this particular design/spec screw up that apparently Audi made, but a more enthusiast average driving style may come into it some too relative to board participation.

Default I love my S8 but make sure you sell it before CPO warranty expires

I loved mine, I had a computer issue that was fixed under warranty but it was stupid expensive if I hadn't had warranty. It's a rocket ship that drives and handles beautifully. Loved it but grateful I got out of it when I did
