2016- 3.0,shifting questions
I've had my D4 for about a month now and there are a couple of shifting related issues that are bugging me:
1) At highway speed, if I lift my foot off the accelerator under certain circumstances, the car will quickly downshift. It actually feels like it's braking but since I don't have the driver assist option, it must be a quick downshift. I haven't been able to replicate it on demand but believe it happens if I quickly come off the accelerator to either coast for a second or brake. I brought it into the dealer and did a SW update, re-adaption and checked the fluid level, no issues found (same for issue I'll describe below). Is this normal? I'm not surprised the dealer could not replicate because of where they would have a taken a test drive.
2) The "low torque" shifting seems to be be a "thump/shudder" at least 1/2 the time. By low torque, I mean just cruising along and maybe going up a hill w/o forcing a shift. I actually think it's shifting
fine but it's the feel I'm questioning. It get the sense it might be a mount/isolation issue but that's just my guess. Turner and a few other companies make an insert that fills the void on the
transmission mount for what sounds like the exact issue I'm describing, I haven't checked the mount myself but will get it up on the lift to check.
Anyone else have a similar experience? If so, not sure what else I can do in either case if dealer actually went through full SW update. As a point of reference, my D3 with 200k has a must better shifting feel but also two less gears.
thanks

1) Sorry, never noticed this or at least never considered it as not normal. Maybe a video would help us understand a bit more?
2) Not normal under normal condition. I have a bit of shudder when in manual and pushing very strong but this is normal. You have as you said the possibility to mount drivetrain /transmission mount inserts. They are the same as for the S4 B8(.5)

I had a ton of shifting issues with my 2015 3.0. I was convinced the transmission was going out - it would shudder, search like crazy between 1-2-3 and generally felt as if it was on the way out.
One night on a whim I decided to hook up my Ross-Tech cable and see if there were any transmission adaptation reset options. Sure enough, there were. And it has shifted perfectly ever since (and I've put close to 1,000 miles on it since then).
Do this at your own risk, but it worked for me.
