Only regret is not doing it earlier. I intended to do it when I was out of warranty but dragged my feet. I did it at about 60k. If you decide on stage 2 make sure the place you have doing it actually looks in your engine bay. They are accustomed to doing the pulley change on S4's which requires bumper removal and tilting the radiator forward. There's so much room in our engine compartment that the pulley swap is comparatively very easy.

I have APR stage 1 also on the 3.0T. This guy in brand new SL550 wanted to race me. Beat him to 60 by 2 car lengths every time. Beyond that, though, he walked away...

Was your car off warranty? Really tempted but the voiding the warranty has me spooked.

Hey! Do you know how much the APR stage upgrades are for parts and service in your area?

Hey! How much did you pay for your Stage 1?

Randy

I think Stage 1 is $1,500

I've just got my '15 3.0T A8 three months ago. Though I'm happy with the power of the 3.0T, I'm considering the APR upgrade. Stage 1 is listed for $999 and stage 2 for additional $292.

Are you guys happy with the stage 1? Would you recommend going stage 2?

Just to be clear, stage 2 requires you to purchase and install, at a minimum, a supercharger pulley. So there’s added cost for the pulley and, unless you’re a DIYer, additional cost to install (and you’ll likely need to purchase a pulley puller).

Stage 1 yields a significant performance increase over stock in less than one hour. Stage 2, a significant performance increase over Stage 1 (even with single pulley only) - don’t let the relatively small incremental peak hp and torque numbers fool you. The amount of low-end torque with Stage 2 is worthy.

My advice is to get Stage 1 done. Then, if you yearn for more, consider the Stage 2 upgrade. I view Stage 1 as very safe. As you upgrade further, you’re pushing the limits of the SC.

Share your decision and experience!

@Slamck I ordered a double pulley and belt from APR this weekend. I do not have stage 1 yet, my plan is to jump straight into Stage 2. As you know, there is an enormous amount of room in the D4 engine bay with DIY installation of the pulleys is very easy. In the next two weeks, I should have the Stage 2 with pulleys installed.

@dgbaudiphile Thanks for your advise. Mine is Gen 2 with the 4-bolt SC pulley, so replacing the SC pulley is easy.

@NotoriousGLU Please keep us post on the progress of your upgrade.

At this point, I am leaning toward going either Stage 1 or Stage 2 with SC pulley only, because it looks like a bit of pain to replace the crank pulley. I'll call APR on Monday and see how it goes from there.
