I know driving style and city/highway mix has a lot to
do with it, but I’ve been surprised at how bad my around town mileage has been. Last tank of mixed driving (heavier emphasis on city) was probably in the 17’ish mpg range. I have done a few longer highway stints and didn’t get anywhere near the 28-29 epa rating. What says the group?

I have a 40 mile commute that is 50/50 highway and back roads. I average around 24 mpg in the spring/summer/fall and around 21 mpg in the winter after the switch to winter blend gas. These cars are capable of some pretty impressive mpg on long highway trips (cylinder deactivation helps), but don't expect great mileage if you have a lot of short trips around town.

Seems about right given my experience of mixed highway/city driving. I remember when I tried to “hypermile” on a tank of gas with efficiency mode enabled and actually got worse MPG.

I get 14-15 in city/suburban settings, 18 mixed freeway/suburban, and 27-28 in relaxed freeway driving. Since my freeway driving is only occasionally relaxed, I generally get 24 on the highway having exercised it a bit....

I have a trip from TX to FL in May, and might take the Audi. If I can average in the mid to higher 20’s, might make sense to drive it. Heck, I’ll probably drive it one way or the other, but trying to come up with a reasonable mileage expectation on sustained highway driving...

I too was disappointed with the mileage from this car, but that’s only because of their advertised mpg numbers. I don’t even drive it that hard (because I usually have my daughter in the car) but have averaged only 17 mpg over 16K miles.
Lately, I have been seeing 14-17 mpg in suburban driving with several short trips, and 22-24 mpg on the highway.
Not vey good, but I understand that this is not the car for running errands or stopp-and-go driving. And, I use all the nice features like driving mode, massage, seat ventilation and soft-close doors frequently. That may be part of the reason for this ‘low’ fuel efficiency.

D4 in PA
My trip computer says 22.5 for the last 5400 miles, so in reality it's probably around 20. My last measured tank, meaning calculations based on fuel used and miles driven, was a run across PA through the mountains and back, netted 26mpg with speedo pegged at 80. The trip computer said I got 27.6mpg for the trip. Temperature was about 74°
This week I did a similar but shorter highway run in nearly identical driving mode, measured 24.3 MPG but air temp was hovering in the low 30°'s. For an engine with 444 lb-ft of torque, these are very satisfying numbers.

I’m around what you guys are getting. What’s funny is I’m getting better MPG than my wife’s new XC90 which is a 2.0l 4 cylinder. Granted it’s moving 6000lbs but I continue to be amazed by the power and efficiency the 4.0T gives.
