hey sorry for the delay! I got the kit from SRM which is really an oem set of audi parts. Didn’t come with the check valve so I got that. Also doesn’t have the two (16 and 10) sets of what looks like nuts in the pic. When I called they said they were unneeded. Also doesn’t come with oil separator, obviously. That’s when I called the dealer and they’re advising on the additional needs for oil separator (I.e. when changing separator, recommended to change x,y,z).

People more knowledgeable than I should comment.

If you are planning on keeping car forever, and you have good mechanic that isn't going to rape you, i would consider replacing the check valve, oil screen and oil separator which have all been revised. That will give you peace of mind. Also, change oil every 5k or even 3,750 like me.
Question for the group - for those of us with CPO or 3rd party warranties up to 100,000 miles should we follow audi's recommended service interval of 10k or something less? If they are going to fail I rather have it before the warranty expiration at 100k.

Are there any good videos or directions on how to do this work? I didnt find anything on youtube..and most vids in general are D3 specific which is super annoying.

I have changed my oil interval to 5-6k. My CPO expires Nov '19. I'll have about 45k on the odo. I plan to purchase an extended warranty( 4 years up to 100k) that will cover the turbos. If I do not buy an extended warranty, I will certainly do the preventative screen/check valve once the 7/70 hidden warranty expires (my car was sold-in and resides-in a CARB state).

One can get a one day subscription to erWin and download the service info: https://erwin.audiusa.com/erwin/showHome.do

This is the most detailed information, I have seen, which will get you to the screen and turbos on C7 S6/S7, the D4 is easier, since you do not need to remove the bumper cover: HOW TO: Oil Separator R&R

That is a great writeup. All those modules, tubes and electronics, looks more like working on an airplane than a car! LOL.

I am looking for an A8. I have looked at a 2015 and a 2013 with the turbo 4.0 liter. This is where I get a little nervous when hearing the discussion regarding the Turbos.
There is a 2011 that has all the options and the 4.2 liter V8. There is not much difference on the cars other than the engines.
The main reason I want the car is for long hauls for my wife and I to enjoy after retirement.
Great info and initiative on your research.
Thanks

Check out the HOW TO: Oil Separator R&R in post # 195 above. That will get you down to the turbos.

There are many of posts on replacing the turbos, such as this: 2016 S6 4.0T Turbo Failure...

Are the new oil separators from the dealer an upgraded version like the screen and check valve? Or is it just recommended to change it out as maintenance even though its the exact same part?
