Default 55K Service on 2011 A8L 4.2L questions / DIY?

Dealer is wanting a lot for this one - i've worked on my P-cars a lot so I'm good changing oil and filters, what about the plugs ( and maybe coils) as recommended at 55K service? my car is CPO for another year but the last included service was at 45K - just put 4 new 20" Pirellis so I'm trying to save on maintenance - I've had the car 2 years and put 30K miles with no issues.
would like to hold on to it for a few more year and then look for a 13' or 14 with 4.0L engine.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Looks like oil/filter, air filter, maybe cabin filter too and plugs. No need to replace coils unless you are having issues. Pretty straightforward stuff. Make sure to use OEM or equivalent parts and keep your receipts to prove you did it.

If the 55K service would be done by the dealer is way more than oil/filter, air filter, cabin filter and plugs, it is a long list of checks, you can probably do it but I'm not sure how would this affect your CPO warranty, in case you need it.

That is correct. There is a long list of things to look at. I was only referring to the actual parts that need to be replaced. Doing the service yourself with proper documentation will not affect your CPO warranty at all. If you decide to do it yourself I recommend printing out the list of items that need to be replaced and checked and then put a check mark by each as you check them. Keep the receipts for the parts you buy and you'll be good to go. Personally I prefer to do all my own maintenance.

What the other guys said. Plus document what oil you use for 502 oil spec compliance--about only likely area they can hassle you if some internal motor issue and they run oil analysis (can happen...). Magnuson Moss Warranty Act (federal) is what says you can go completely on your own here and can't deny warranty coverage as long as shop/you did recommended spec. maintenance.

Receipt and cell phone pic of an oil container on way in is great proof in this age. I would also just get the hard parts via audiusaparts too, so all there, all Audi, etc.. Plus Audi tune up parts these days are more or less the same if dealer web discounted than typical going prices for branded Mann, NGK/Beru/etc. (whatever the OE plugs are for this motor).

I did this on my 2012, and if it's the same, the service was:
Spark Plugs
Both Air Filters
Cabin Air Filter
Oil Change
Clean Throttle Body

I followed the instructions in the shop manual, which you can purchase in downloadable PDF form for about $60. The only thing I skipped was the throttle body cleaning.

All aspects of the service were pretty easy for someone who has moderate experience working on cars. I think a certain amount of engineering goes into arranging the parts and connections so service is a snap.

I used an oil extractor and filled with Mobile1 0w40. This method is illustrated in the service manual, as well as the drain from bottom method. I preferred it much more to messing with all the underbody covers like on my old A6's.

I bought all my parts at Meadowlands Audi (which also has a website), and the prices were extremely reasonable. I wish I had the receipt with me. I'd tell you what it was; but I seem to recall it being somewhere between $300 and $400 - which was much better than my local dealer's quote of $2700!

I'm not sure what checks are performed. From experience, always check your CV joint boots (especially up front)! If you don't have them already, I'd say you're an oil extractor and a torque wrench away from saving a lot of money

Hello!

I can definitely get you the check list and all the parts for this service. The list for free, and the parts for 20% off. Give me a call at 888-416-2834 and I would be more than happy to help you out! Just ask for Jeremy

Thank you!

Just a follow-up:

I got my shop manual at:
https://www.factory-manuals.com/

You supply them your VIN, and they give you a customized manual with all your build options.

Also, I mentioned Meadowlands Audi as where I bought my parts. The post from Jeremy at audionlineparts, above, is the same dealership. I can't recommend them enough. Not only are their prices great for OEM parts, but Jeremy also helped me *not* order the wrong rotors
