A8 comparison with LS460
#122
Good morning,
I realize this thread is now 4 years old, but having owned both cars in the title I'll give you my .02:
In 2006 I bought a used Lexus LS430. Drove that thing for 8 years. Bulletproof reliability - just got bored with it.
In 2014 I "upgraded" to the 2007 LS460 Exec Edition.
In the few months I owned this:
Car made a clunking noise when shifting into reverse and park
Tons of wind noise; there was a fix for this but I didn't keep it long enough.
The dash! It was literally melting on me! Like touching a warm brownie and I had to pay several hundred bucks to get an upholstery person to come out and fix. Later I received a notification from Lexus that they're aware of the defect in the 2007 models, and would be willing to cover this if fixed by a Lexus dealer. Too late, money lost.
For a garage stored, old man driven 39k mile mint car I was very disappointed. The drive was boring. It's just not a driver's car. Not enough power IMO.
Now I have a 2016 A8L with the APR Stage 1 tune (545 HP) and get a huge thrill every time I drive it. While I'm sure it'll have problems down the line that are expensive, the "smiles per gallon" are worth it.

I am the OP. Four years after my purchase, not a single issue, other than my wife trying to move a neighbor's retaining wall, which ended up in a brand new rear door!
I am still as excited about driving this car as I was with my first drive four years ago.

Clearly, I'm late to this discussion but since the thread has new replies, I thought I would share the thread I started on the Lexus LS forum. I'm currently looking to replace my 2016 460L with an A8L. I think you all might find the responses of other LS owners pretty candid.
