Is an A8L Right for Me?
Hello. I've been reading these forums for quite some time and am now ready to ask a question!
I really want an A8L (2013-2015) but I drive a lot for work. Gas is paid for, but I put lots of miles on a car. I had a couple of my last cars to 200k+ miles.
Realistically, can I expect an A8 to last that long? Or am I looking at constant maintenance?
I spend a lot (LOTS) of time in the car, driving 1000-1200 miles a week, so I'd like something that I'm comfortable in.
But I don't want $1000s of dollars of upkeep on the car.
Is a used A8 right for me?
Thanks in advance!
Brian

It’s an expensive car for someone who drives 40 to 50K a year, just look at the depreciation. You can’t even cover maintenance via contract due to the high annual maintenance. What do you drive now?

The V6 might be a good match for you. For the money you won't find many cars more comfortable! Get one loaded up if you are going to be spending a ton of time driving. Dual-pane glass, etc.

Thanks guys. I drive a Sequoia now - that thing is rock solid. But I’d like something more plush.
I am used to Toyota reliability and costs but this is a different beast.
The V6 seems to be a better choice-and prices for a 2-3 year used one seem to have come down drastically in the last few weeks.

I own 15 GL550 bought it new and got the warranty extended for additional 3 years, and reliability wise MB is far better than BMW not sure about Audi because I am yet to own one. You can check the below link.

This is my 2nd GL previous one was 07 GL450 I owned it for 6 years before I bought this GL550 and they are beast, the ride\handling is phenomenal very reliable SUV "Only Gas Engines" and got a great gas mileage, don't get a Diesel because it is prone to have some issues unless you dont mind 5-6 visit in dealership a year but that would get you 28-30 MGP on highway, I get 16-17 MPG in city on my GL and 22 on Highway if I drive sober. If you need more power and your pockets are deep than GL 63 AMG is the route to go, probably my next car would be that. But I am very positive if you go with GL you wont regret. The only issue is now they introduced 6 Cyl in GL450 which I think is little under powered, so try out GL550 and you would be blown away with its Twin Turbos :-) Also to keep in mind these are huge and heavy cars with negative Camber\Castor which make them hungry beasts for tires, so in 30-35K miles you would need a new set which can cost you around 12-1300$ from Discount tire. But definitely recommend to give it a try and update us here how you felt about it.
