Default Adaptive cruise control intermittent failure

Re 2011 A8L. Without warning and in clear weather and light traffic at highway speeds, the ACC quits working and the message "ACC and Audi braking guard currently not available no sensor vision". After 5 to 15 minutes the system comes on again. This happens frequently - about every three hours of long trip driving.

This has been going on for three years and multiple dealer visits have been unable to fix the problem. Basically dealer (and Audi) say since the failures leave no record in the computer they can't fix it unless they can duplicate it while they have the car, which they have been unable to do. Maybe they don't believe me.

Am I the only one having this problem?

I have only seen this during heavy rain/snow. Do you have access to a VCDS (Vag-Com) cable and can check the codes yourself? It sounds like the sensors are failing and one would think that this would leave some sort of error code.

This happened to me once on a clear day, but typically during fog/mist/rain.

Has the dealer performed an alignment of the vision system sensors ?

Am without a laptop at the moment and waiting for VCDS-Mobile to become available or I'd scan mine to see if anything ever showed up.

This same thing happened to me. I posted about it at the time. Audi had the dealer do an alignment of the cameras/radar sensors, and all has been fine since.

My ACC fails in clear weather. Sensors not dirty. Dealer aligned sensors and problem persists. No error code appears.

Dealer performed sensor alignment. Problem persists in clear weather.

Are you still under factor warranty? If so keep bugging the dealer. Sooner or later they will have to replace the sensors as I believe they are the issue because you stated the shop already did the alignment.

Another question is how are they trying to re-produce the problem? When you have this problem does it fix itself after some time or distance or after you restart the car? I would suggest next time it happens go to the nearest dealer and show them the issue. It doesn't have to be your dealer as long as a dealer can verify the issue.

Well, now I've seen this problem. Identical symptoms. Was a definitive cause ever found? Cruise control doesn't even work the old fashioned way if the sensors aren't working.
