Smile Air suspension fail light ( yellow one)

A8L 2011 with only 55,000 miles, last week the R.R wheel is up all the way. the drive was so stiff
and then the air suspension fail light comes on ( yellow one)
took the car to my local mechanic( he is an expert in AUDI) and its the R.R sensor that must be replace.
a new one is 220$ plus 150$ of labor. the car is perfect now
however according to AUDI when replacing the R.R sensor
the gas tank must be remove to access the sensor.
my mechanic did a bypass without removing the gas tank.
i think if i had gone to the AUDI dealer , they would remove the gas tank.
i am sure the invoice would be much more higher.
once warranty is over, not going to dealer.

I had the same problem.

All four of my leveling sensors stopped working.

Had them replaced, all is well now 2500.00 later.

Thank you yuva and others for helping me determine I will never own a D4 A8 ever! Having to remove the fuel tank just to replace a sensor not relevant to the fuel tank shows the stupidity of Audi engineers. I love Audi but somethings, such as this, really makes you think: what the hell were the engineers thinking!

You'll find design flaw in all cars.
Cars are more and more complex nowadays.
The only alternative is to get a car way more simpler ie. electric.

I must admit that my 2011 D4 has been trouble free ( i got it 3.5 years ago)
it is much more reliable then the D3 that i had for 7 years
AUDI are not perfect , but they are much better then B.M.W or MERCEDES
i also own a 1995 911, on those fabulous cars even a small repair, you must drop the engine.

Default Air suspension damper replacement

Let me hang on to this thread: According to the VCDS error memory of my Audi S8 4H 2017 the valve of the rear left air suspension shock absorber seems to be defective. Has anyone ever changed a rear left air suspension shock absorber by himself?
I read in the Erwin Audi repair instructions that to get to the upper screws of the air suspension damper one has to remove the rear seats and the rear shelf which sounds pretty complicated. Is this really necessary or is there an easier way?
Sorry for any English mistakes - not my native language.
Thanks for help!
