Specs recommend a 30 series tire, specifically a 265/30/22 tire to ensure the overall diameter is within 3% of OEM diameter with a 20" wheel with a 265/40/20 tire.

I would prefer not to run such a low profile tire, and would prefer a 35 series tire. A 255/35/22 tire keeps the overall diameter within 3% of stock, but I have been warned of potential rubbing.

Anyone have any advice?

Hello Sir

You have to take in consideration that the wider tyre U go for, the "higher" the profile gets! The profile of the tyre is based on the calculation in the dimension! A 285/30X22" tyre has got a "lower profile" than a 295/30X22" tyre! "more rubber height on the 295 width tyre so to speak!

As long as you stick as close as you can to the orginal diameter/circumference, and do not mess about with the wheel offsets, you should not have any problem with tyres narrower than 285!

On my car I have fitted 295/30X22 and did experience some "rubbing" on the rear fenders, and on one of the small plastic clips for the front inner arches!
At the back I changed spacers, got new ones, 2mm less did the trick,( Yes I am running with spacers ). The front plastic clips I just dismantled (One for each inner arch, works fine without them!). My recommendation would be to go for 285/30X22,,, 265 would look cheap,, Not sure U can get this dimension wrapped around any decent 22" wheels ??

I am in the process of getting some 22" wheels and would really appreciate the specs of your setup. Wheel width/offset and tire size/brand.

The wheels look great, congrats

So my wheels and tires are all mounted. 22x10 CVS wheels, to which I found Audi Center caps that fit from Europe. Mounted to Eagle GT All Season tires 265/35/22. Fit nice and square to the wheel and keeps me within 3% of OEM overall diameter (these are bigger by 3%).

Car has a slightly sportier feel, something I welcome as I found the OEM set up to be somewhat bouncy.

There is a slight increase in road noise, but that can be expected when switching to an All Season from the OEM Pirelli P Zero, which lets face it, are ridiculously quiet.

I do get some very slight rubbing in teh rear if I hit a large dip in the road going at speed, but otherwise it all fits nicely.

And now for the pics......

I just recently put 22s on my A8L. The ride is not too back with the car in comfort mode. I will probably go with a 35 series tire for my next set.

This is right after leaving the wheel shop and back at work. Took a loooong lunch break.

Your wheels are a full inch taller. Thats pretty aggressive. Speedometer will read slow I'm sure.
