Anyone with carbon buildup on intake valves?

You guys are in for one big let-down. The old fashioned "Italian tune-up" doesn't do squat for the carbon buildup. I know, I had an S6 v10 before this car, the fuel doesn't flow over the valves so they don't get cleaned. I am hoping Audi did something about this issue in the '12 MY but I am afraid it most likely didn't happen until MY 13 or later.

Thank you for your posts gentlemen. Whatever vehicle I end up getting, the likely use case for it will be more like 15~20K miles/year.....which I understand is a lot more than a typical owner does in this class. It is going to be put through its paces thoroughly.
As for the Italian tune-up, I am afraid the users who posted the nature of the beast with Direct Injection have it correct. However, the 2013+ 3.0T motor does not have these issues on the intake side. The Exhaust side issues are a whole different matter though. Regardless, they don't seem to be as susceptible to the typical FSI issues.
Logic tells me there is no way the 4.2 in the A8 will be any different, I guess I am just looking for validation of that logic.
