Audi A8 4.0T vs 3.0T
Hi
Would you guys say it is a good idea to buy an audi a8 4.0t with 120k miles? Would it be reliable or would I eventually have to replace turbos? I also posted something similar on the A7 forum. Should I go for the 3.0 supercharged as it is more reliable? I am interested in an A7 and an A8 but having a hard time deciding between the 2. My current car has a 0-60 of 5.5 seconds but fuel economy sucks at like 12mpg.

The only unexpected service I've had to do is PCV replacement, but that is a very common issue and is well documented. Will cost around $500 to fix yourself if you replace all necessary gaskets as well, expect $1500 at a dealer.
I am averaging 22mpg in a car with sub-4 second 0-60. At 120k miles, I'm guessing what you're looking at is between $20-$25k. For what you get I think these cars are a steal. You'll be riding in something that is faster, better looking, and more luxurious than 99% of vehicles you see everday for the price of a new Ford Focus, lol. With that said, part prices are probably 3-4 times what they are on a normal car, but that comes with the territory, and everything is available online. Nearly all service and maintenance is DIY if you are mechanically inclined.
Go for the 4.0T. Get it inspected. Have them take the noise insulation off underneath so you can get a good look at everything, checking for leaks etc.

I would visit the dealer and drive both. My wife has the 3.0 A8 while I have the 4.0 S6. If you want just a regular daily driver and road trip highway car the 3.0 is adequate. The mpg's are better in the 6 cylinder versus the 8. My wife's A8 can easily get 30 mpg's on the highway.
If you want the fun factor get the 8 cylinder. The sound, grunt and oomph are there and you will be hooked.

I have a 3.0 its fast and adequate and quiet has a little umph to it but not as loud as an infinity or mustang.

Ya I find it hilarious that an infinity is considered a "luxury" car when it sounds like a lawn mower under the hood everytime you accelerate.
