Audi A8L D4 3.0
Hello everyone. I need your assist. I bought my Audi 2013 A8L 3.0 recently from a third party dealer and drove it about a week and I noticed an unusual shuddering sound when the car is changing the gear. It happened in low rpm and it feels like you need to hit the gas paddle lo little harder to get the feel of the pick up. Any idea what it could be. It's very annoying. Someone told me it may have to do we the transmission update to fix the gearbox . I am ot sure I have an appointment on Friday so let's see.

So I has an appointment today with Audi service and I told them about this rattling noise coming from transmission and they test drove the car and told me that they didnt find any fault or issues with the transmission or not they found any codes regarding the noise. So there saying that it is probbaly because some part may be wear and tear or maybe touching one of the partt in the car which is making the rattle noise . They didnt say anything about the flex pipe or exhaust. It happened in multiple gears . Specially when I am releasing the accelerate and the rpm goes down to about 1000 it makes rattle noise and it sounds like it's coming from the driver side area by the engine. So I guess they didnt bother to look at it. They said that it will take so long for them to find out what part in the car is making that noise. So I end up leaving the facility.

Just put the car on ramps and have someone push and release the gas pedal for you while you are watching underneath or use your mobile phone to tape it.
Around 1200-1400 rpm for instance.
Check the flex pipes area.
You will see them rattling I'm quite sure.
I got this on mine and it took me few hours to understand what was the cause.
I thought at the beginning that it was coming from my glove box so I ended up removing it and securing all wires behind it to no avail.
It was in fact my passenger flex pipe. It's an known design flaw for all A8 engines.

Sounds good. I'll definitely try to lift the car and have someone accelerate and observe where the sound is coming from. In my case it's coming from driverside engine area. Thanks for the tip.

So I took my car to a muffler shop and they lift the car and check the flex pipe and told that nothing is wrong with flex pipe.

Are you confident they could diagnose this? I'd be curious how many they have seen.....

I mean the problem is when the car is on idle and when he was checking the flex pipe. I accelerate to see if the shudder comes . But it doenst shudder while it's on parking. So it's hard to diagnose weather its flex pipe or something else.

It does sound like flex pipe. I had mine adjusted twice per TSB(for free by local Audi shop) it's 95% better.
