If you have the tools, time and know how its no problem. I've done it myself and have no issue doing it, but because of my work schedule in the summer I had to have the dealer do it a couple of weeks ago.
Be careful of the parts you replace with, there is lots of junk out there. May be best to order OEM bushings. I've seen the aftermarket stuff fail rather quickly. Seems a lot of it made in China and it shows inferior or lack of quality too. Even though the stock stuff doesn't last long, the aftermarket stuff is worse in most cases for these Audi bushing replacements.

Mine was doing the exact same thing with the noise when stopping slow. Had the wife drive slow applying brakes and releasing them. I could see the wheel move backwards by about 1/2" every time. Ended up the bushings were bad on the lower rear suspension arms and had to get replaced. I let the dealer do it and they stripped off the ball joint on one of them and then had to replace one of the arms totally also.
The 8 is a bushing eating monster! Third time for mine with some type of suspension bushing replacement in 123,000 miles.

This is EXACTLY what it was. Just replaced yesterday.
Thanks so much!!

I replaced #7 which includes #8. Near impossible and not worth the time to press old bushings out and grind everything out to replace them. Just get the new control arm with bushing already in it.

Thanks for the reply. Cost is a factor for me. The arms are ~$300 each, vs ~$30ea for the bushings, and they can be pressed out. Alldata has the details for installing new bushings such as press depth, etc. I'm not sure I'm going to fix it yet, but I'll probably try just the bushings first. Worst case scenario I'm out $60. I'm glad to hear this solved the issue though.

Price is 100% a consideration for me. I can't remember the site now, but I was able to get Lemforderr (oem) for like $120 just by searching Google for the part number

Oh good info, those are significantly cheaper. I'm curious how you installed them, or if you had a shop do it? Manual specifies to tighten the frame bolt with the suspension in the "control" position, so with weight on the suspension. Is there room under there to tighten the bolt if the car is on ramps?

Had a shop do it. $100 labor and saved me a ton of time. I wanted to make sure it was done right. I prefer to do work myself, but suspension stuff can be finicky and I wanted it properly torqued
