Default Cost of 55k Service? Brakes?

Anyone know what the 55k service goes for on the 2017 s8+ . I heard it is a big one?
(This thread says 600-1500 so I guess I'll go with that)

Same thing with ceramic brakes. Anyone had to replace those?

Zimmerman is pretty much the only MFG that makes rotors that fit these cars other than OEM which are insanely expensive, something like $550 or more for each front rotor.
If you have a good indy shop that you trust and they will let you bring your own parts, it may be worth it to go this route... and they are going to ship you like 100+ lbs of rotors for free!

Also FWIW the A8 4.0T brakes on my 2014 LWB are interchangeable with SQ5 brakes from a number of years. If you cross reference, you may find the same (SQ5) rotors for sale other places as well.

Well intended, but there is a lot of "not applicable" in this thread.

1. As a 2017, you are on the "newer" Audi service schedule, aka the one where they cheaped out some. They removed the 5K initial oil change, and then just simplified everything to 10K steps. The old 55K would now essentially be 60K step. See this for specifics for your year and model: https://www.audiusa.com/content/dam/...aintenance.pdf

2. As an S8/V8, on the newer schedule your biggest "major" service intervals really fall at 40K, 80K, 120K, etc.--spark plugs, engine air filters, etc. Old schedule was 35K, 75K, 105K for 4.0T A8/S8 V8. Thus, you are not at or near one of those major points, whether you call yours 50K or 60K. Some of the confusion may come in here too, since the V6 gas is on a 60K tune up cycle.

3. Your brakes are carbon ceramic (CCB's) from what you say. If they were the iron rings like mine, those would be 400mm, and only S8/7/6. When you "need brakes" on yours, it will typically be pads only. The rotors are what are insanely expensive--many thousands, each. Pad are in the hundreds. Audi wants high hundreds IIRC, but there may be aftermarket options. Pad compound is specific to CCB's. CCB rotors can often go past 200K miles, while pad change cycle is the more normal 40K type league from what I understand. Tracking my conventional iron ring set up, my last measurement said mine will drop under wear spec in the mid 60K mile range, but again for the carbon rings like yours they wear very slightly and over over many more miles. Key to CCB's in brake AND wheel work is being really careful about the rotors. One wrong drop or hit and a multi thousand dollar rotor may get messed up.

4. Also nuanced, but at the intersection you are at--brakes and a two year old Audi--the service schedule does call for a brake fluid change. Dealers often miss this one, since it is in a different part of the checklist and based on time, not miles. Worth having it done to keep brakes in top form and reduce likelihood of long term hydraulic brake system stuff in later years.

Once again you are a wealth of knowledge. Thanks!

I was quoted $750 (including local sales tax) for the 55k service on a 2014 S8.

I was quoted $1,250 (including local sales tax) for the 75k service.

Audi care select package on a 2014 S8 for two services is $1,249 + tax.

Are you saying that the AudiCare select package would give you a "free" 55k service? Shouldn't there be a 65k service in there too?

No. For 1,249 you can choose what package you want. Package 4 or 5 is the best value for the S8.

Package 3 - 55k and 65k services Package 4 - 65k and 75k services Package 5- 75k and 85k services

I see, your point is well made. That makes more sense. Thanks.

Finally reached out to the 2 nearest dealers. 55k was 590 at one and 960 at the other.

It also boggles me a little that they quote an oil change at 150 give or take and that is the only real parts cost at the 55k and 65k- the rest is just labor cost for "inspections"??
