the D4 is an AMAZING machine !!
For the background to this story I am a car dealer who's own personal car is a 2006 W12; so I am not easily impressed. Last week, at an Audi Financial auction in Orlando, I located a 2015 A8L 4.0 for a customer. I had been searching a long time for one that fit all the customer's requisites...not black, not white, no black interior, B&O, and all options. After months of searching I found one Moonlight Blue/Nougat 29K all options (except Night Vision), bought it via Simulcast and flew down to drive it back to KC.
I had never driven a D4 so I really did not know what to expect and now I must say, after 1200 miles of seat time, what a spectacular car ! The way this one was optioned and with the diamond quilted Valcona leather, and with the added dimensions compared to the D3, the car had a definite Bentleyesque vibe. And more performance (not to mention economy) than my W12. And what's really astounding is that a car with a window sticker price of $114,000 can be had two years later for $50 K...what a bargain !!!
I have never been a fan of the D4 styling before but it's grown on me...and I enjoyed the huge technology advance over my car. I bought a Glacier White/Velvet Beige 2015 A8L 4.0 last month for a customer via simulcast in Pennsylvania but the customer flew out and drove that one back; but the next one someone orders I will definitely take the opportunity for another D4 road trip.
Obviously on this forum I am preaching to the choir, but I just thought I would share my 'revelation' with y'all. Lucky bastards.

Yep, and try a D4 S8 for major pucker factor, even from D3 W12 or S8. W12 still has that right there, right now, no excuses torque, though Audi did a nice job on hiding most any lag w 4.0t. I still think at a dozen years D3 exterior design will be more timeless than D4, which tries a bit too hard and has some Bangle to be wrung out. The older D4’s have some of the ginormous A4 corporate design think too. Some of D5 design on outside seems to be drifting closer to D3 again.

My color choice for the new S8 was greatly influenced by a wish to mask the unsightly, to me, line and crease. Some colors enhance the lines more than others. I ultimately chose Moonlight Blue, and the lines are less visible, and I love the color! I don't buy based upon looks, but I feel that if you are going to purchase new, you better expect to keep it at least a decade, so it must look good to you. I am pleased to say that mine is magnificent.
I plan on on posting my more detailed thoughts on a few things which may not have been mentioned here after I refine my thoughts. Mike
