I was told I needed new pads and rotors. Had them done at an indy shop 15000 miles earlier so the dealership had no knowledge of that.

Told them I'd wait for the pad wear indicator light to come on as it was coming off lease shortly.

They told me it could come on any time...5k miles later..no light, returned off lease...saved a few K.

OT...have only one key fob.Is a new one a dealer only product?

I was told the same thing from the dealership where my car is serviced - needed new rear pads and rotors, light could come on at any minute, and here's a quote for $1500. I drove it for another 5,000 miles, the light never came on, and I had them done at an indy shop for like $800 (with the shop ordering the parts from another Audi dealer).

At my 25k service I asked to have brakes checked as there was a faint shudder when stomping on them. They recommended full rotors/pads replaced for $2600. I declined. I wanted second opinion from another dealer, who said they'd do it for $2100 but offered to check them first. Dealer #2 said brakes are fine, just a little corrosion but nothing to worry about. Well, this coming week I'm going to Dealer #2 for my 35k service, and the brakes still seem fine to me. That is Ten Thousand Miles...and still going. What a (potential) ripoff.

I literally drive right by Dealer #1 on my way to Dealer #2. Shall I flip them the bird as I motor by? Dealer #1 = Sewickley Audi......Dealer #2 = Audi Pittsburgh.

Unless they're using solid Platinum rotors I'd skip both of them. Find an independent shop and treat yourself and your significant other to a lovely dinner with the savings.
