Engine Compartment Recall
I've noticed that the weatherstripping in my engine compartment is loose. The area in question is the section furthest away from the bumper. Is anyone else having this issue?
Sounds like VAG has recognized there is an issue.

Yep, I had the same thing happen. Pulled into the garage and could smell something...opened hood and there was the molding sitting on top of part of the turbo. When I go for my next oil change I'll have them take care of it.

I have a theory about this because I struggle with it every time I work on a D4: the ground post in the engine bay is too close to the rain tray to a fault. It takes time and fiddling to get the weather strip behind the ground post and correctly placed on the rain tray and false firewall. Because of this I think many times the weather strip is just left not fully seated in this area and when it’s not fully seated it’s very likely it will cause a chain reaction around the perimeter.
On most D4 engines it’s really a non-issue but the 4.0 is a hot V and that rubber laying on the turbos and downpipes is a recipe for engine fire. Audi has a way of affixing it in place as per the recall but every time I encounter this is take my time and get the weather strip seated correctly behind the ground post and I no longer have an issue with it wanting to fall off.
This is a just a theory, I’d love to hear others give their experience.
And also if you have a 4.0T I definitely recommend opening your hood and making sure the engine weather seal is seated fully around the perimeter.

Agree with you @2turbos4rings on it being a pain to get the weatherstripping in right in that area.
Has anyone seen the official fix in the field yet?

I have not experienced this particular issue but I see a recall issued.
Does the “repair not yet available”, circled in red below mean there isn’t a fix or I have not yet got it addressed?

The data in the red circle leads you one way, but look under the heading REMEDY. That would make one believe that a fix is already out there.

Even before I posted the question and my finding a recall, I considered using 3M Black Super Weatherstripping and Gasket Adhesive to affix the weatherstripping permanently. The 3M product worked great on my rear window weatherstripping, and it is good up to 300 degrees Fahrenheit.
