I was surprised how nice the new 2015 A8 sounds, especially on start up. I have an E46 M3 and a 993 Porsche and the A8 sounds just fine in comparision- even a bit growly. In any case, for a luxury sedan I think its actually more than normal.

I never figured out the porsche codes, I am assuming 993 is this current gen?

As I indicated, I thought my brand new A8 (45 miles ) sounded throaty. However, driving down the highway yesterday the car started to sound like a NASCAR...so I pulled over and called the dealer. Car was towed. Phone call later in day - "Sir, a clamp on the muffler came loose and caused the muffler to slide off the pipe. All fixed now."

Now my car is just like the rest, no growling! So what I was hearing originally is the muffler partially off the pipe !!

yeah these things are insane sounding, but whats even more amazing is how good Audis sound proofing is. I was amazed at the difference.
