Faulty trunk switch? 2015 A8L
Trunk will release with key fob, motion sensor and door switch but not with trunk switch. Took it to dealer and service advisor says trunk switch is locked in valet position and I have to purchase plastic key ($200) to change the lock position so it will operate. I believe this was the case with D3 but not D4. I cannot find anything in manual. Valet button in glove box not on.
Whole thing sounds silly as one can open the trunk any other way. Appreciate any suggestions or help.

Should be valet switch in glove box. But playing along with what dealer said, have you tried the quasi hidden trunk lock? You don't need plastic-key AFAIK. Just take the physical key blade out of the fob and use that to turn lock. Awkward, but it fits and works.

Trunk won't open regardless of glove box valet button position. Also turned off in MMI central locking. He is able to pop open the trunk with the mechanical key but insists you need the "plastic valet " key to change the position of the trunk key lock to the non valet position.
Thanks for your comments.

Try this. My perfectly working D4 trunk has the key slot opening oriented in line with the rear bumper face. Is yours like that, or rotated 90 degrees so it is in line with the sides of the car?.

Excellent thought. The key slot is in line with the rear bumper on my car. I don't think there are any other positions on that lock other than the quarter turn to manually release the lid. It really seems like a bad switch.
That is a big help.
Thanks!
