My car has stop/start. I usually don't engage that feature and therefore don't experience the car auto-shutting down when you open the door. However, if the car is stopped it will obviously shut down when stop/start is engaged---with door closed...or open. When stop/start is not engaged, the car, if in gear with engine running and door open, will be held in place and not move forward or in reverse as a safety precaution.

Engine shutting off when the door opens makes no sense. As other have said, mine engages the parking brake but doesn't stop the engine....

I have the stop/start off and it still turns off when I open the door while running IF IF IF I've driven the car first. It doesn't do it if I start the car, don't move it, and then open the door.

Might be a safety feature, so you don't get out of your car in the garage and kill the battery leaving it in the on position after the engine shut itself off. I don't know.

just tried the adaptive cruise - oh my lord, it's awesome!!!!! car stops for you and then resumes speed even after a dead stop! if only it would steer...
