My tired ears actually can't hear (what I think is) this sound for whatever reason, but wife and daughter hear it a lot--during driving when they are riding along with me. They describe it as somewhat of an oscillating or maybe whirring noise. Could be the squeaky spring description mentioned here. Daughter found the way to re create it one time when I had gone inside w/ key to get my phone. Friend w/ more computer savvy who can hear it either live or on a sound clip thinks it is probably drive/head still.

How to: have volume down on stereo in advance, like to only "1." Leave key OUT of vehicle. Close all doors for max quiet. Press START button. W/ key out of car the lack of engine start up sound won't be masking the sound from in the center dash area. Should hear quickly thereafter--within a second or so.

I would guess servo motors in the AC ventilation. The repeating part does not sound like a hard drive to me but I could be wrong.

The "not chirpy sound" is the steering wheel getting aligned or the soft close doors engaging pushing the last streach. Or should I say thats the same type of sound so maybe the seats, seatbelt etc. I would not worry about it.

You guys are awesome! I appreciate the feedback. I plan on chasing this down with the dealer.

A 8 - your logic makes sense if the car is stationary, but the mystery sound occurs while driving as well. I don't feel it is hindering the performance or functionality of the vehicle in any way, but it is a let down to hear it so often.

Listened to mine today and the klonking sound is exactly like the doors locking and the other sounds like the the side mirrors getting into park position but I assume that dont apply to the mirrors when you drive.

Do you have a phone charger connected all the time?

Hi Basarab - negative. No phone charger plugged into the DC adapter, but the USB cable in the arm-rest is plugged in, but never used. Are you suggesting I should unplug it?

I had a similar noise when I would leave car chargers plugged in all the time, but looks like that would not be the case for you

I had the same sound in my 2011, it wasn't as grindy as yours though. Like a countdown almost, 4 times. Sounded sort of like an actuator retrying something a few times before giving up. It never manifested itself as a problem and was the same for 6+ years.
