Interesting fact about keys for the D4
So, I got a replacement key for my 2016 D4 and when I looked at the key blade, I noticed the cut was completely different from my existing key. Before sending it back, I thought I'd try it and voila, it worked! So, these locks can accept different keys. Don't know how that works, but it does.

+1. Actual lock function is pretty limited these days. Glove box I guess as another. Wasn't sure from post if what was being tested was the remote or near field keyless on the one hand, or the actual physical cut key in a cylinder.

I didn't think of the glove box. I know I have two keys that are the same and one valet key that only works in the door but not the trunk or glove box.
Separate question but what is the plastic key for?

Key Fob battery
Another key fact: owners manual is completely useless in describing how to change out the battery in the key fob. Design of fob case has a pry-slot on each side indicating that it needs to be pried open to change the battery. After several attempts and really marring up the plastic, I checked on YouTube and found a short video of how to do it....very simple and easy task once you see how its done. Audi must want to get another dealer visit out of A8 owners!

Those slots are for vehicles that require you to insert the key. It's how the key is held into the slot. The A8 of course doesn't have such a slot but they use the same key for many vehicles.
