The fragrance system in the new A8 including an ioniser in the driver side air vent :
I'm going to see if it is possible to retrofit something like this or the one from MB below.
They are offering it as a retrofit option kit.

The MB system is basically an ionizer and a fragrance dispenser in the glove box.
4 wires : positive, ground, illumination and LIN BUS to control the amount of scent you want in the car.
This could be the easiest to retrofit.
Of course you need to accept having a MB part in your Audi...
I just wonder how the device will act without the LIN bus wire connected.

Thoughts?
What about purchasing this & a couple wire taps? Tap into the rear cigarette lighter and sneak each emitter into the rear center vent. Probably 1/2hr mod. Yes, it’ll always be on but if you’re gonna go through all this to add an ionizer then I’d think you’d always want it on anyways. I’m sure you could wire in the factory switch if you really wanted to.

It could work of course but this is not really the goal of this thread, which was to share a step by step DIY guide to get an OEM retrofit or very close to it.
Now what you are showing can be also an option.
You can always adapt third party parts if you are handy enough, it will be yes cheaper and maybe easier too.
It would also fit cars without the rear climate module.
On my side, and this is only a personal choice, I'm trying not to fit anything but OEM parts.
