Lane change assist retrofit started

I have started several retrofits at the same time and have broken them up into several threads. My high beam assist and rear entertainment system retrofit can be found I thins forum as well. I decided to start all of the retrofits together to save on time for disassembly and reassembly.

This is the camera I purchased from a famous auction site. Part numbers to be posted soon. The wiring for this camera will be ran on the drivers a piller to behind the instrument cluster. An image processing module sits there. The camera itself requires power, ground, and two network wires twisted together. There is also a 4 pin LVdS cable that will send the image to the processor.

You should also know I did NOT have to replace my windshield. The bracket was already present.

You do not have to change your windshield indeed, everything is already fitted, only the camera is missing.
Don't forget the little heating resistor. It is not sold separately but comes factory fitted with the windshield.
You'll have to scavenge a spare one or use a compatible one
I used a VW Touran one.

This is mandatory when cold outside as some condensation could be expected in front of the camera.
If you want the traffic sign recognition, you will need ODIS to inject a new software and parameters.

If your car is a facelift model than you will have the active lane assist, otherwise you'll have the lane departure warning.
If the latter then if you have a 3 spoke steering wheel you'll have to fit a vibration motor in it or switch to a 4 spokes steering wheel.

The routing of the LVDS cable should go via the A pillar passenger side as the image proc is sitting under the passenger seat (just in front)
No need to route anything on the driver side. CAN signal can be picked up under the central light dome like power and ground.

Thank you for all the clarification Laurent. I got a 10 foot lvds cable. I may need a longer one now. Did you retrofit this in your car? Lastly, if you did, do you have the part numbers for connector and pins for the camera and module? My car is facelift. I have the 4 spoke steering wheel. For some reason, when I swapped column switches, I didn’t notice the vibration motor. Perhaps I overlooked

I need to check the part numbers

This is the one for the camera:

if you have the 4 spokes then is it integrated deep inside. Unless you unwrap your wheel I don't think you will be able to notice it.
There are nevertheless 2 wires going to the left side of it, lower left branch.

Having said this, as you have a FL model, the steering wheel is no more vibrating via this motor but via the steering column, using the motor to correct the car trajectory.

For the camera :

TERMINAL MQS TYCO 928999-1
MQS TYCO 1-1534093-1 6X2
MQS TYCO 1-1534100-1 6x2

Thank you Laurent!!! I'll order these from DIGIKEY here in the states. DO you have the connector for the image processing module?

laurent0613 04-30-2019 08:39 AM

4E0972713 or 1534151-1

Same terminals as previously mentioned: TERMINAL MQS TYCO 928999-1

Check if the connector is coming with the rubber seals.

Recently started ACC and lane assist retrofit on my ‘16 S8 and have a few questions to anyone who done it. What’s the best place to tap can lines for lane assist camera? Thanks for any response
