Lubricant Odor Lingers 30+ days after 35k Service / Ionizer post
When I picked up the car at the 35k service, it had a overwhelming odor of either a lubricant or a solvent... so much so I had to drive (50 mins) home with the windows open in 28° temps. The odor intensity has dissipated over the past month, but is still detectable even after leaving the windows open overnight (garaged car).
Dropped the car off for front/rear rotors and pads & winter/summer rim swap yesterday and asked the SA about the smell. He grabbed a can of Audi-specific something from behind his desk and asked me if it smelled like this? Bingo! It is a proprietary lubricant they use, and liberally at that. We think they may have over-sprayed the roof rails.
SO as much as I am NOT a fan of these ionizer/smell-inducer things (see recent post), I am now thinking it might not be a bad idea. The car is 34 days post-35k service and if I leave it for a couple hours with the windows rolled up, I can detect the lubricant smell when I get in. If there is an ionizer/fragrance in New Car Audi, I think I''m game.

The best air freshener (and I have tried so many) I would recommend is California Scents. They last much longer than most other air fresheners and you can somewhat control how much scent is dispersed by moving the dial on the top of the lid. My favorite scent is Coronado Cherry. Should be available at your local Advanced Auto Parts store.

^ Also, the little can fits perfectly in the cup holder. This way you can further control the scent by opening / closing the cup holder lid. Give it a try.

^ Sorry for three posting (I hate editing posts), but the other thing you should do is remove the excess lubricant. You don't want to remove the lubricant from the sunroof railing system but I would think you should be able to get a terry cloth around the perimeter and remove a good portion of the overspray which should help reduce the smell.
