Default Minimum amount of oil to flush/run the 4.2 engine?

Odd q perhaps but its time for an oil change and I was thinking to do a half"ish" fill and run the engine a bit before draining it again and doing the final fill. Anyone have any insights on how much oil I would need doing the intermediate fill, running the engine for a few minutes?

Why would you do a "half"ish" fill and run the engine"? That's a recipe for disaster...so essentially you are running the engine starved of oil, which is a great way to ruin your car. Drain all the oil and then refill to the appropriate level.

+1.

If you want to do something sort of like this a lot more safely, drain oil fully and then pour a portion of a quart of your fresh fill oil in to wash down into the pan and out the drain again. I sometimes do that when the fill quantity is not an even quart. I just use the extra for that extra step in advance, and then am done with leftover part of the final quart. Yes, a bit more in some galleries and pump and such, but not material as a percentage. Getting the new additive pack along with fresh oil and a clean filter is the 99%+ of what's important.

That's what I did last time and I was thinking to get it even more clean this time. Obviously I was not intending to do a "half fill" that risked the engine in any way. My q should perhaps have been what's the minimum amout of oil you need to run the engine without any risks for a few minutes?

Change the oil more frequently if this is a genuine concern for you. Use the correct spec oil.

The minimum amount of oil to add in order to run the engine for a few minutes is an easy question to answer. You must fill the engine the same as a normal oil change. You can't run the engine with less than the correct amount of oil.

Default Liqui Moly engine flush

Add 2 bottles of actual engine flush to your already full engine. Idle 10 minutes. Drain old oil out, replace filter, put new oil in. Easy
