MMI/nav updates
All,
I've now wrapped up my first full week with the new ride. My 600 mile drive home was the most relaxing and comfortable drive I've ever had. I got out of the car at the end and didn't even reach to stretch my arms and legs I felt so good....
I did, however, note that the maps don't update. A lot of new construction in my city, including bypasses and interstate development, is absent from the navigation.
I've done some searching and it appears that I have to replace a nav DVD for a few hundred bucks. Is this the only way to update the maps? What is the best resource for the most up to date MMI software/maps?
Not gonna lie...the techie in me was bummed that it didn't have a way to sync and update itself over the internet.

Even more stuck unfortunately. DVD is how you did the Nav on the prior D3 generation. Recognize that the MMI software is separate from the maps--one is basically the interface and related control, while the other are the maps themselves.
D4 is done electronically, typically on a flash. The newest C7's (aka c7.5) now allow the owner to do it either over the air for local area maps, or with media for the whole country map set. Apparently Audi Connect subscription is needed to get access. But not the D4, though I continue to poke at how later MMI updates may change this. Otherwise, the only practical choice is to go to dealer and bring $$$. Folks have mentioned >$500 quotes. DVD approach was more like $200 and throw it in and done.
Poke if you want to lead on trying to improve on it. D4 board is almost devoid of tech info; just questions like this from time to time on what to do. First gen Q7 board or a variety of others have a lot more and better info, but you have to spend time and search on it.

Best place to get it is online from a dealer. This is the cheapest one I've found. Don't bother with illegal copies on ebay or amazon, they don't always work, and even if they do, it's, you know, illegal.

I guess the only thing for it is to wait until the next update. Unless your car has Google maps, which a lot do. If that's the case, then I'd check to see if that one updates that way or not. It is a subscribed service, though.

If you open the little panel below the mmi screen, you'll see two slots for SD cards and if you have the Google capable car, an SD card slot. That you see the Google name I think means you have it. My car did not, so I'm really waiting for someone who has it to chime in and say whether or not that system uses just Google imagery or it's navigation as well.

When I purchased mine about 3 months ago it had the T-Mobile sim and still had data. It downloaded or updated Earth maps from what I understand. Now that the data connection is no longer active it just warns no connection and uses whatever earth map is stored. I can switch between regular nav or earth without an active data connection.
