navigation GPS/locaiton re-set?
I'm using the factory nav and mid-trip (4 hour drive) it shows me off route and the location never resets. this is last month and after canceling out the route, turning system on/off...ignition, etc. it will not relocate me.
it shows the map, and still centers around me showing the car moving around with the compass, but it doesn't have the correct location.
is there a way to hard reset the GPS and/or get this back to the right area/location? anyone experienced this or know why this happened.

You will need to learn the 3 button MMI salute and reset. It's in the MMI manual for the car. Below a screen shot meantime. I have actually done it once or twice while driving on longer trips and wanted to keep moving but also check the traffic info on maps.
That is only the bandaid. To really fix it, you need the MMI software updated to at least the 2015 version--the operating software to be clear, not the maps. Typically dealer has to do it. If under warranty, should be covered. They did our 2013 Q5 for same issues as yours and that basically has same MMI as D4. I am trying to get them to do 2015 S8 currently--which was an early ship so still had the version before the fix.

I think any IIRC, but you start the reset with the MMI system on--whether engine running, ignition power on but not running. Don't remember if it works when you just the system running with car off by pushing volume ****. If it does not basically shut down the MMI display and then restart again to where you see the display screen come back, you didn't get it triggered. Pretty easy to get it to trigger though as long as you hit those three items. The Hidden Menu activation (once enabled) with some other buttons is a lot touchier than the MMI reset is. As I mentioned, I found I could even do it on the fly while on road and have it reset.
