New A8 in Oolong Gray owner
Hi, all. This past weekend I did something I wasn’t expecting: I traded a 2-year-old 2017 Allroad for a 2016 A8L 4.0 that has been in service for two years. Despite the loss of tech like the virtual cockpit, it’s an amazing upgrade. It includes the driver assistance package, cold weather package and 21-inch wheels.

Wow, beautiful car! Congrats on the purchase. If I may ask, why the change from the allroad? At one point I was actually thinking of trading my A8 short-wheelbase in on a B9 allroad to get some level of versatility but alas I stayed put. Would love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks! I love the Allroad but I kept wishing it had more power, although the engine is adequate and returns great highway mileage. I also was having trouble with the seats. I just couldn’t get comfortable, and I had come to the conclusion I was going to have to move on to something else or spend the rest of my ownership squirming around and dealing with aches and pains caused by the bolsters. Ideally, i would have upgraded to the A6 Avant, but we don’t get that. I was actually close to buying a Cayenne when I saw this on the lot. The interior (and the ventilated/heated/massage seats) sold me.

Great choice! That engine is going to put grins on your face for many years to come.
I agree that the Allroad seats are, well, not right. I'm 6' 190 lbs and when I drove one I spent the entire time adjusting the seat.
Speaking of adjusting the seats, it may take you a few tries to get your new seats just right. It actually took me about 6 weeks of tweaking this and then tweaking that, but once you find "it" your in Seat Nirvana.

I think in some cases the back seat of the A8L is so big that I can put some stuff in the there if need be. If I ever really need the space for moving something, I can get a Zip car rental or something like that, but on an everyday basis, I didn't use the Allroad's capacity for moving stuff around. For comfort and enjoyment in everyday driving, the A8 wins. I was just thinking this morning about how much more enjoyable it makes my commute.
