Congrats on the car and for traveling so far to purchase, no better way to get accustomed to your car than a long drive home It's the effort that makes the reward so much better.
I purchased my car sight unseen (all the usual research though) and had it delivered (about 2k miles on a truck). Best purchase ever!

Jealous that my drive home with my D4 was only 4 hours. Barely time to shake hands and exchange names!

Any time, no matter how short with these beasts is always a good time!

I bet that was a bit of a difference! Reminds me of moving here to the US from the UK, going from a Vauxhall Astra to a crew cab F250 diesel longbed was a heck of a thing! You get used to it, I promise you! 😂😂 now controlling the smile that spreads across your face as you drive, I can't help that at all! 😂😂

Congrats on your purchase. I wish mine had the B&O, really liked it in my previous A8. I love the power and economy of the 3.0TDI, perfect motor for this car for daily. At the risk of the extended warranty I did put a Malone stage 2 tune on the car which really woke up the motor. I am assuming yours has already had the emissions fix done to it?

What is the malone stage 2 like? What did it involve? I may well get a ECU remap next year when I'm out of warranty but I'll see. Keen to hear people's thoughts and experiences of modding the 3.0tdi engine.

Thanks for the comments guys, I am still enjoying her, and can't take the smile off my face when I drive her!

Does the Malone tune void the emissions fix warranty? How exactly does it wake the car up?

Since we are now measuring whose is longer ( trip to get our D4s back home ), this is what I had to do ;
  • I found my 2015 A8L TDI with only 8700 kms on odometer, in Gatineau, Quebec Canada. I was not interested in anything but the diesel. This makes it my 9th VW/Audi diesel vehicle.
  • We flew to Ottawa from Calgary, picked up the A8 and drove to Montreal to visit our son. We spent 3 days driving around in Montreal.
  • Drove back home to Calgary, Alberta in three days. 8 hours first day and 15ish hours for two more days.
  • Hit some bad weather in northern Ontario and driving on the stock 20' performance tires was 'interesting'. I've since added 19' studded Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 https://www.nokiantires.com/winter-t...kkapeliitta-8/ .
  • All in we put around 4200 kms on this trip. The ride was amazing and scenery spectacular, but no amount of seat padding could prevent sore *** .

That's a heck of a road trip! I must say, one of the things that amazed me on mine was how little I hurt when it was done, 23 hours of pretty much straight driving in most other cars would have had me feeling like I had been run over by a bus for a couple or three days I am sure!

These things are truly mile munchers, which not only coddle you as you travel, but seem to have the innate ability to put a beaming smile on your face at the same time!
