Default Oil max light

I have have drained my oil twice now and it keeps popping up with "Oil above max level" error. I am wondering if there is a dipstick I could buy for a 2011 4.2 A8?

See my earlier thread for the S8 and 4.0T. It may give you some leads relevant to the earlier 4.2: https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a8-...4-0ts-2897711/

Meanwhile, I would stop draining until you get this sorted--either a real dipstick, or a complete drain from underneath (and including filter), and then filling with factory spec # of quarts. Keep in mind, the issue may well be the oil level sensor, unless you basically know you overfilled it.

Yes sir. I have only drained about 1/2 a quart and am not planning on draining anymore. It comes and goes. Right after I wrote my question the light went away again when I took it for a drive. I did read your earlier thread but finding a dipstick for 2011 A8 seems to be near impossible. I can't understand why Audi wouldn't have a backup device to read oil level, it seems to be a very important thing to have your oil at the correct level. I have written Audi directly and hope to hear back from them, but I won't hold my breath. Thanks for the reply.

It is important to not overfill the engine by much. It can create unsafe oil pressure levels. Particularly forced induction. That's why it's sensitive. Buy a dipstick.

Buy the dipstick MP suggested. It should work for your car as it’s a 4.2 engine dipstick.

Your link for 4.2 goes to Audi Online Parts. The page shows a dipstick. However if you order that part, 059-115-418-A what you will receive is the oil tube cap, the same part you are trying to get rid of. I had to ask for a refund when I ordered the part from Audi Online Parts. I spoke on phone to the parts guy there. I guess they are too busy to replace the erroneous image. If you run that same part number against google. You get the image of the oil tube cap.

Forgive the obvious question, but where does the dipstick install?

There is a cap or plug in the existing dip stick tube. Remove and replace with stick. On the 3.0 it's on the right at the front of the engine.

Just did the same damn thing. Can someone confirm that actual p/n for the dipstick for a 2015 S8??
