Default "passenger airbag off"

The amber light shows up quite often with my wife in the seat. Would appreciate comments from those of you who have had to deal with it.

Tell your wife that she doesn't weigh enough to trip the sensor. I'm betting she'll appreciate that (and it's most likely true).

Does it turn off if you sit in the passenger seat? Does it turn off for other passengers?

If the answer to either is yes, then have your dealer take a look.

It does the same a few times when I was in the passenger seat.

what would the dealer do typically?

Seems likely they would test and then replace the sensor.
It should be under warranty still - so I'd take it in.

The system is called PODS and it works by sensing the electrical capacitance of the body sitting in the seat. It should be covered under warranty. They no longer use the gel PODS system.

Does your wife often wear a jacket or long body cover in the car? That can interfere.

One of my friends always wears her massive parka-like jacket, which also means that she thinks the car is too hot all the time. I dunno...maybe take off the Alaskan dog sledder costumer?

Has the sensor been tested with someone else (heavier) in the passenger seat? Just eliminating the obvious.

It usually happens after an hour or two after the start of a continuous drive, without any noticeable movement on the part of the adult passenger when the warning light comes on. It sometimes goes off after some 10s of minutes.

My car was just in the shop for the exact same thing. Sensors replaced, seat put back together, and all seems to be working now. They said they could not duplicate the problem but I had 3 separate days worth of video showing that someone was in the passenger seat when the light was coming on. I have the exact write up at home if needed.
