Hi all,
On the Ross Tech's page:

The Audi A8 2010+ link is grayed out. Does it means limited support?
I have a 2016 A8L TDI and considering buying the HEX-Net, but want to make sure it is supported.

From this forum, I often see members with A8 able to code using the VCDS, but wondering why on Ross Tech's page, it is grayed out.

I think the greying out just means they did not develop the online specific pages for it. Having owned Ross Tech on the one hand and C5, D3, (Gen 1) Q5 and most recently Mk6 VW and 2015 D4 S8, my cable continues to work as expected and trouble free on all of them. It is the older unlimited VIN version they used to sell at $399.

Anything you find posted as far as a (validated) mod or diagnostic for D4 works on mine. As far as specific procedures, D4 is pretty much like D3. If modules have changed or merged (I first saw this on 2013 Q5), then typically C7 approach works. Most/many of my personal more unusual mods and related posts have come from C7 side, where there is a lot more posted in general that is more enthusiast and mod oriented, at least on the AudiZine board. Since I know the interface, 80-90% of what I do is just attach cable and work on screen. the balance up to 95% plus is working from a post or thread on a mod or procedure someone documented. Only for deep dive stuff do I get into more online reference materials. Then if I search Google by the extended code always provided (plus a decent word description) I almost always find it. To put a point on it, that includes even my D3 W12 at very advanced levels, which is essentially an exotic and sold at far lower volumes than R8 for example. That is, on motor specific items for a model that sold less than 1,000 units in the US for its whole life. Rest was std. d3, just like "rest" of your TDI would be std. D4.

Using your D4 TDI as another cut, I think it it is probably a lot more important that you can get to the Q5 and Q7 TDI posts and info, where probably 98%+ of the TDI specific knowledge resides for US oriented boards. More C7 TDI's for that matter than D4's, plus the various Touareg's with them that would also have TDI posts and VCDS compatibility.

I have never even had to call or email them for true support, but that basically just takes a validated ownership cable as I understand it (which I have). Good luck doing that with the app types--especially once you find out home base is in Romania, not PA.

It should work fine with any current model. Works fine on my 2014 A8 TDI. You are looking at "wiki" pages which are generally user contributed information and not many A8 owners fuss with their cars, most just take to dealer.
