It's a real beast ! Nice power and torque figures too. It's interesting to read about the "falling asleep" warning that the Benz's have had for a while. Also, the 360 degree camera with I'm assuming cameras for when at junctions or when reversing (those pesky B and C pillars can be annoying!).
mmmmm ceramic brakes :-)
I wonder what other goodies we'll see, that should hopefully filter down into the range.

I wonder if the S8 has an EPA gas mileage rating yet? The press release sounds a bit optimistic, unless that is not a U.S. rating. Not that you buy this car to worry about that, but I'm wondering what gains Audi has made as to these high output engines.

The S models are very impressive. Will they be available in the US in the spring of 2012 and will Audi make the S6 Avant available in the US?
520 bhp for the S8 is about right. Same engine may be available eventually in the RS7 at much higher output.
Looking forward to the inevitable comparison to approximate competitors of the S8, especially the Panamera 4S. My guess is that a well equipped S8 will come in at much less than a well equipped Pan 4S and will have much more power.

The price of the Panamera 4S depends largely upon options, but as anyone who has configured a Porsche knows, one can easily add $20,000 to the base 4S so that real prices of roughly comparably equipped Porsche Panamera 4S are in the $118k to $125k range. Price alone will not make a big difference because the two cars are likely to be very different dynamically. Yes, the big difference in torque and hp will produce faster straight line times for the S8, but the driving experience will be different. That and the very subjective view of the Porsche's appearance. My assumption is that the S8 with most desirable options will be at or below the low end of an optioned Pan 4S.

I am guessing (I do NOT know for sure) that the twin turbocharged gasoline DOHC 32V 4L FSI V8 with or without valve-lift will produce 552/560/412 SAE hp/DIN hp/kw from 6,300 to 7,200 RPM and 524/710 lbs-ft of torque/nm from 1,800 to 6,300 RPM in the RS 6 and RS 7. If that is correct, that would be 8 less SAE hp/8 less DIN hp/6 less kw but 22 lbs-ft more torque/30 more nm than the twin turbocharged DOHC 32V DFI (direct fuel injection) 4.4L V8 with double VANOS (BMW's version of valve-lift) in the M5 and M5 Gran Turismo.

That new S8 is impressive indeed. However, I must admit that I am now upset because I've had my eye on some 2007 S8s for a while now only to have this D4 beauty smack me in the forehead, spoiling my prior anticipation with envy and a knowing sense that the D4 S8 will be so far out of my price range that it is but a distant vision in the horizon.
