Is the s8 plagued with oil starved turboes?
I've been doing a ton of research and getting closer to purchasing a preowned s8. Except this blown turbo issue is starting to steer me away. Seems very common on s6 4.0 and even a bunch of rs7's have had to replace turboes. Very pricey repair. Seems mostly caused by the screen for the turbo oil feeds which there is now a redeveloped version of said screen. Anyone have preventative maintenance for this? Or does it not apply to s8?

Buy yourself the S8, you are in the D4 discussion so it should be able to still be financed. Get a warranty from the company that is doing the financing. I just bout my 2015 and got a 3 year 36k warranty (that I did not get on my 2012 A8L 2 years ago) for 3k. A grand a year for EVERY part of the car. I can inbox you the company name and see if you can do touch base with them to see how you get a warranty of you would like. As a matter of fact the S8 is the only car I have had a warranty on since I purchased a brand new F150 in 2003.
When my 3 years is up I am refinancing and getting another warranty. I originally thought this car would be to overwhelming to work on myself but I am figuring things out. Good luck!!!

As above, I purchased my S8 still under manufacturer warranty, but added another 50k miles of true warranty (besides wear and tear stuff). Think it was in the $3k range, but totally worth the peace of mind.
Any fix on this car will be pricey so worth protecting yourself.
The car itself.....absolute dream of a car and 110% recommend buying!

KELZO is right, you will love driving it. My point is you dont have to buy from dealer to get a warranty, all you have to is finance and finance company will offer warranty protection.

Ok so warrenty seems to be the way to go. Ide prolly buy all the vagcom stuff so i can do repairs myself. But fact is I dont see many cases at all with this problem related to the s8. Maybe it's not a problem at all with this model. That's why im checking. I see alot for sale with over 70k miles already.

FWIW, the S8 turbos are different from the A8 (larger - same as RS7) and it appears that most A8 issues were in the first couple of years of the D4 with 4.0T.
Since it appears that you're looking at A8 4.0T issues as a proxy, this discussion may interest you.

My S8 (2013) had that issue. Currently being replaced with larger 71mm ball-bearing turbos, along with a few other extra modifications. I'll be making a post about it once it is completed, tuned and dynoed.

I'm interested to see the info when you're complete, please share. I have the same year S8 with the APR tunes. I was wondering about the turbo wear and tear, but we've had very little discussion on the board regarding the turbos failing in the D4.
