S8 vs A8
 

In am in the market for a 2013 S8, but because of limited supply have not been able to locate one locally(NY area). Have been looking at A8 4.0 and have been impressed on it's performance. Would like to know if there is a significant difference between the S and the A8?

Have you checked with your insurance company? I would suspect the S8 cost more to insure but I don't know by how much. Car and Driver road tested both the S8 and the A8L 4.0t and found the S8 was faster by a fair margin.
2013 A8L:
0-60: 3.9
1/4 mile: 12.4@112mph
2013 S8:
0-60: 3.6
1/4 mile: 11.9@118mph
For me, I'd keep hunting for an S8. The performance of the A8L 4.0t is outstanding. The performance of the S8 threatens to defy physics.

Side note, if you find an S8 you like that's not local, ask the forum members here if they will look at it for you. A local dealer will get it to you for a reasonable fee.

I have seen plenty of CPO S8's and RS7's. Just check Autotrader. There is a Very Nice 2013 A8L 4.0 T in Cicero, NY. Black and black. 40k miles. It's an awesome car.

I have driven both. The performance difference is definitely noticeable but if comes down to the equipment you are looking for and the other options like such as color, you may find a regular A8 to your liking. Note the numbers above. It's hard to believe but the car moves!
