S8 vs RS6 experience
I've been kindly leant an RS6 for a few days from my dealer and I thought I'd share my experience comparing it to the S8.
It's <deleted expletive> fast. It's REALLY REALLY fast. The cabin in the 6 is almost identical to my wife's A6 diesel, apart from mainly the flat bottomed magnesium infused steering wheel, which is a really nice touch.
This car had the standard super sports seats, which do hug you well and provide great lateral support. Obviously the S8 being more luxurious feels better for the larger frame i.e me.
The ride on standard air suspension, even on dynamic on the UK roads is surprisingly good with the 21's that came with this car.
You do feel special in it, especially when hooning around bends and shifting up early into the 4k to 5k rev range i.e lots of pops and crackles. I would have loved this on the S8 in dynamic.
The weight of both cars is very similar but you don't feel the mass in the RS6.
The practicality of the estate is rather good, dump the shopping in the back with the load fixing kit and off you go (I didn't even crack an egg coming home today).
Ultimately, fuel consumption comes to mind. I did the same run as I did in the S8 yesterday and managed 32mpg (UK) on daily work run (vs 32mpg in the S8). So nothing in it really.
When driving in a spirited fashion, you can easily average 6mpg though.
The up side with the S8 is that you get a much more refined ride, it' a much more sophisticated and subdued car and you can tell. You also get the option of a maintenance package with tyres - not available for the RS6 or 7 in this country.
There are some hard choices coming up in the Jet household in the coming months!
