Swapping Contis for an even quieter ride.

Swapping Contis for an even quieter ride.
I`m the extremely happy and proud new owner of a 2012 A8 with all the best bells & whistles attached, car in immaculate condition and is Audi Certified. It has 2 brand new Contis on the front and the 2 at the rear are about 70%. The car drives perfectly beautifully. I`m coming from a Lexus LS460 & MB SL550 that had the quietest riding tires,Michelin Primacy & Hankook Evo`s respectively. My Audi is "very" quiet on the Contis, the other cars were "extremely" so.I understand the different mechanics involved and the lengths Audi goes to match their flagship with the best rubber but was just wondering if anyone has swapped out their Continentals for an even quieter set? I drive a 80 mile commute, primarily on the Turnpike here in Florida. Love the car and am in 7th heaven;will new rubber take me to cloud 9?

Thanks Jack, that`s interesting. I`ll look into the new Contis as I`d prefer to stay with tires that the dealer can get and mount, not sure they would do that with the Michelins or Hankooks. The car does not have double panes by the way.I think this B&O sound system would have shattered them any way! The car is still under Audi warranty and has 4 year extended;would installing a different manufactuer, other than the OEM,have any effect?

Different tires will not effect the warranty. The double pane glass is supposed to reduce intrusion of noise from outside the car by 6db, according to Audi literature.

Just swapped out my original OEM all season Conti's at 32k miles (mostly stop and go and stop and stop urban driving) for Michelin Primacy's. Not overly impressed with either the ride nor the "reduced" noise.

Thanks Doc...Well,there you go,thats a big surprise to me. The Michelins I had on the Lexus greatly improved the driving ambience. I`ve read several positive remarks about the Michelin SuperSports also. What to do,what to do....

I have the supersports on my Dodge, and they're very grippy and quiet. But that's a Dodge, I don't know how they'd be on the Audi, which is by it's nature quieter anyhow.

Thats another positive for the SuperSports, thanks Jack...I`ll talk with the dealer about the ContiSilents also...thats a strange set up with those. They seemingly layer the inside of the already manufactured tire with this sound-deadening,roll of material.
