Transmission looking for a gear
I just picked up 2017 A8L with 8000 miles on it. Cars in really nice shape and I've been driving it for about 2 weeks now. I'm coming out of the 2015 that had about 55000 miles on it. The transmission on the new car doesn't seem to be as responsive as the 2015. Just wondering if I need to give it more time to adapt to my style of driving or should i have to guys check it out under warranty. Thoughts?

The tranny does learn your driving style, so prior owner may have been the Geezer stereotype. Biggest A8 market in country is indeed...FL. So, time and heavier foot may help retrain it. Dealer (or someone with VCDS) can also do an adaptation procedure on tranny (and maybe throttle too), which is essentially a start over on learning with prior habits literally erased.

When it is just responsiveness, or pedal just doesn't feel right (non linear, jumpy or you have to put foot way too deep into it for everyday driving), more likely the throttle. If shift points and/or shift quality, more likely the tranny one. Any time I do tranny, I do both. Tranny formal procedure, at least for D3, was to trigger it and then immediately follow a 30 minute or so driving routine that culminated with very gentle shifts up and back down--like 0-60 in as slow as you can do it, like a minute, and then coast all the way back to first. Takes like 2 miles of very quiet road and no stop lights that can screw you up. Having done it on my D3 (late at night on quietest local arterial type road I could think of with few traffic lights), if tranny was in order mechanically or you fixed something it really did work.

Sounded too easy. Going in for an oil change soon and will tell them it's not right and to deal with it under warranty. Guessing throttle based on your description. Many thanks
