Trunk Intermittent - A8L TDI D4 (2015)

Hi All,
Brand newbie here. Loved my 2005 Passat Tdi so much, I went out and bought its daddy! Just got it 2 month ago - so much to learn!
Having trunk issues. No biggy but I thought there must be some "easy" adjustment.
Problem: The trunk always closes. But often opens only part way, from just a crack to half way up. Then occasionally it works. I wind up gently raising it by hand.
There must be some sensor to adjust or technique to get it back on track.
Please, anyone....

It's usually the gas struts that assist the opening that have lost some of their lift force (pressure). Is it worse when it's cold out? Better when it's hot? If so then that's the likely culprit.

Makes sense. Thank you!
I don't know the car under other weather conditions as I bought it only 2 months ago. I've experience this problem for about a month.
So, should I infer that the system actively cranks the lid down against the struts, but let the struts do the work on the way up?

But then, if the struts are shot, I can't imagine why the wide range in behavior. Just a crack, then part way...All day yesterday it was perfect until late, then back to partially working...

Sorry the multiple replies... but I see springs inside. No struts. ??

You need to remove the inner lining to see the struts.

Thank you skiracer and JaL3.
I removed the plastic shroud covering the lid's arm so I could better peek inside and see the offending struts.
Looks like removing the liner will be a minor PITA. But I'm glad I'm in the right direction.
Sure wish your page had active links! Would love to refer to "page 66", and to have part numbers etc. But. I'm sure I can sleuth these things on my own.
Thank you again.

BTW, I retrofit a ski pass through if anyone is interested....Got photo's and all. Perhaps I'll post my experience with DIY instructions.

I recommend you get a service manual for your car. There are a few options, do a forum search to find them. I like the OEM personally myself.

Well, I'm pretty sure it's not struts. Per my title, the problem is intermittent. That's the clue.
Shortly after signing off last time, I went back to the car and the trunk worked perfectly! Vigorous, quick, and fully.
This is the typical behavior. Barely, partly, completely....but randomly.
If it were struts, the lack of action would be more consistant. No?
Any ideas?
I honestly thought that I can't be unique and that it might be an adjustment procedure.... like, "close the lid fully and press a button 3 times. Open lido fully and press button 4 times"... Somrthing like that.
