Turbocharged V8 for 2012?
 

A few commenters here have mentioned a new engine for MY2012. I've searched a bit on the Internet and haven't been able to confirm this at all, but I found one apparently non- native English speaking site that mentions it, but that site appears to be a spam content aggregator (e.g., when you do a search and a seemingly real page pops up but has no real content other than advertising links)

Anyway, I asked my local Miami dealer and they are completely clueless, as usual.

Does anyone know if the engine change is real, and if so, have any authority they can refer to for the engine change?

I'm holding off on my potential A8 purchase for that reason.

I love the current A8 engine, so I probably won't be disappointed if no change, but it would be good to know nevertheless.

One of the regulars in the A6 forum (thanks darkop) pointed me towards the leaked engine schedule for the A6/A7/A8/S8.... here are the words

"If this accurate, then we're reading this that the horsepower for the A8 fitment (above) will be 420 hp and it is expected in the market (Europe at least) by October of 2011. Also above is information for the S8 which will weigh in at 518 hp and arrive November 2011."

It's also got some screenshots of ETKA which shown the specific engine outputs. Have a look on fortitude, they have it there. When it comes to the US I don't know.

My dealer has received their 2012 spec changes in a pack. I'll get some details out of him this Saturday at the A6 launch for the A8. I know that split-view is something that's being looked at (no dates on it yet).

A regional manager with Audi USA told me that the word is that the 2013 S8 will have the twin turbo 4.0 that is suppose to put out near 550 HP. Also, all platforms will be receiving the TDI in some format or another (utilizing the Q7 TDI and upgrading that for the 6 and 8).

FWIW.

I understood that the 3 litre diesel engine is destined for the US in the A6 and A8.

They really should think about the 4.2 TDI in the A8, it's a brilliant piece of engineering and even has a throaty, deep bellow to it.

I heard the same thing about the 4.0TT and I will be getting that to replace our E63 I think.

Saw him on Saturday, but forgot to ask we were looking at the new A6. He's off on holiday this week, but I will ask him next Monday. Will let you know if anything is changing.
